Let me introduce myself, my real name is steve but my handle is ashcan. Recently, maybe a week ago I was chatting with my friends on AIM and I had to get off to go to bed. After I had signed off and turned my laptop off my younger sister signed on. Now, being the internet junkie I am I asked if I could check my mail. So after about one minute of begging I got to go on. While yahoo is loading (im a 56k loser) I take a glance at my sisters buddy list, I see my screenname on. Looking at the screen with a surprised look, I say What the F*ck! I think, my password is not a simple word and no trojans are running on my laptop. I sign off my sisters name and sign on my name. BINGO It lets me sign on without a problem. Now, If you've ever owned someone (knew there password) you can try signing on there screenname while there off and it wont let you sign on, but it will kick the user offline. If my screenname had been "owned" I would have got the same error message. I didn't. Mystified.....squints at screen. Soon after my sister signs on her name. Everything seems smoothe...none of my names are on....everythings fine. While looking at my mail, we hear the door open. My sister opens the buddy list window..guess what? I see my screen name signed on. I look at the user stats, I see the time the names been online and there ISP, warning level, etc. The stats display
Internet
Online Time 13 minutes
Warning level 0
Mystified once again. So I look at the screennames profile...Its my profile, exactly like it Complete Carbon Copy. "aww Shit! Someone must have my name!" I yell, but then pipe down because my mother did not want to hear my swear. Rushing Franticly, I kick my sister off the computer and go to sign on my name...No error message.. I changed my password since and havent had that problem.
Now a few months ago, It was Febuary I believe, a Cold Saturday. Exept this time My sister was on previously and i sign on AIM on my fathers PC. Of course, being the lazy bastard I am I didnt add my sisters screenname to my buddylist. My friend and I are conversing about Saturday nights "Ding Dong Ditch" session and says "Hey Steve, WTF!? How can you and your sister be on at the same time" I add my sisters name to my list. I look..she's on. How could this be? She's standing right next to me! I sign off and tell my sister to sign on. No problem once again No errror message.
Now I haven't spoke to anyone of this problem before but if you have experienced this
strange occurance please contact me. My AIM screenname's are:

Nemisis's thoughts -
One reason this could be happening, is that for some reason your AIM is not signing off corectly, so it looks like you are still online, rather the same way it would appear you are online from another computer if you just disconected your modem with out signing off. Eventuly the AIM server realizes that your not there, or your client is not responding, and you ping timeout, and are signed off. This could be what is happening, or not... I can't be sure, i'm also not quite clear on what you mean when you say that you didn't get an error message. That error message only happenes when someone signs on your screenname from a diffrent location, you wouldn't have gotten that message if you were signing on, they would have, and if they were smart they would have figured out that you were the one that knocked them off, and not signed back on until you were off. The part about being online for 13 minutes, does not really matter it is quite unreliable.
